Injury Treatment
Please note we now only offer sessions in southern Spain – Competa, Malaga
We assess all types of injuries and movement problems. Whether your problem was caused through sport, a leisure activity or at work, we can most likely solve it and get you back to normal in a short amount of time.
We specialize in Running injuries as this was my background, but I have also worked in Football and Rugby. Saying that, a lot of my clients do not participate in sport at all.
Our clients are both male and female, young (children generally over 8 years old) and older (oldest client to date was 92). As long as you can communicate, we should be able to help.
If you are coming in from the UK or outside Spain, we can help with finding you accommodation.
We can advise on local B&B, many of which are our friends, and you can book this yourself or we can help (without taking any commission).
Injury Assessment/Treatment
Whether you have injured yourself playing sport or from a work or leisure activity, you will first undergo an assessment. First we will take an in-depth history of your current problem and any previous issues you may have had. This part is THE most important as something in your history will guide us into what to look for. Something will either have happened or changed so please don’t think anything is irrelevant. This part can take 15-20 minutes but is most important.
We will then take your personal details and health background plus get your consent to continue. Next up will be a mix of postural and movement assessments. How you move is very important!
We’ll then get you on the couch and perform various muscle tests. We use a testing procedure called NeuroKinetic Therapy (NKT™) to determine what is not working correctly and then use various techniques to resolve your problem. This may include various forms of massage, stretching and exercises.
You will be given homework to carry out – this is very important for you to adhere to. You will also be advised about a return appointment and how many sessions you will likely need, although this can’t be accurately predicted.
Costs are 50€ per session, inc IVA (VAT) and payments can be made by cash, BIZUM or Transfer and all major cards
For all services, please wear appropriate clothing so we can inspect, assess and work on the body part(s) or be prepared to remove certain layers of clothing
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How many sessions will it generally take?
A: This depends on each individual issue but you should expect to attend 2-3 sessions. Most minor muscular problems may take less. More complex issues can take longer. It also depends on your adherence to take on board our advice, such as rest and doing rehab exercises. Surgical rehabilitation can take many weeks or months
Q: What injuries do you generally deal with?
A: Most often it is muscular problems. Strained calf or hamstrings, low back pain, pain in hips, neck or shoulders. Also common are movement restrictions of joints. We deal with a lot of running injuries such as Plantar Fasciitis of the foot, muscle strains of the lower legs, hip and back. We also have a lot of experience with football and rugby injuries which can involve ligament sprains of ankles, knees and shoulders.
A lot of non-sporting injuries are back and neck pain from sitting at a desk or driving for long hours.
Q: I’ve been to Physiotherapists before. Few test and often only use machines for treatment. Is this the same for you?
A: Absolutely not! As mentioned above, we always test before treating. A lot of my clients appreciate the fact that 99.9% of treatment with us is ‘hands-on’. Also, I am not a physio’, I am a Sports Therapist so nearly all our work is hands-on. I have studied specific courses on massage, muscle testing, rehab and personal testing
Q: How long are you sessions?
A: Sessions are up to an hour. Massage sessions generally go the full hour but treatments can be done in 45-50 minutes.
Q: You do an initial assessment but will I get any treatment on the first visit?
A: Absolutely! You’ll complete a form with your personal details and health background first (so bring glasses if needed) then we will go through the history of your problem for treatments or what you are looking for if you are coming for massage. Even for complex issues, you’ll most likely get around 40-45 minutes treatment at your first session.
Q: How many sessions will I need?
A: That all depends on your issue and how long you have had it. We generally see how you react to the first session and take it from there. Saying that, I generally do not see someone more than 3 times for the majority of muscular issues. If anyone ever states to you at the outset you’ll need 5, 10, or whatever sessions, RUN!
Please note, this is NOT Physiotherapy, Chiropractic or Osteopathy and we do not accept private insurance
