Had a bit of a break since writing the mini series a few weeks back, so thought I better get back into writing. Every now and then, I’ll write something about the treatment sessions I’ve been doing lately so if you’re struggling with something, maybe they’ll resonate with you. It’s becoming more regular to see people with breathing/core issues. If you follow my page on Facebook, you’ll already know this crops up often but I thought I would go into this in a little more detail. I would say that more recently, at least half the clients I see each… read more →
So yesterday the post was about how your Values determine whether you will succeed with your goals and resolutions. But they influence much more than that. Did you do the exercise and write yours down? If you have ever had inner conflict with anything, this is due to not being in alignment with your values and beliefs. I’ll use myself as an example. When I thought about my values and the hierarchy, my top 2 were Freedom and Growth, in that order. For me, this means I place huge emphasis on being in charge of my future and destiny. I… read more →
Coming to the end of this mini series on goal and resolution setting. This one won’t seem so obvious but it is probably THE biggy when it comes to reasons for failing to stick with your goals. Values. Values are those things that we strongly believe in, like Honesty, Love, being Respectful, etc. Most people don’t really think about these are they are ingrained in us but if you set a goal that goes against your values, you’re on a hiding to nothing. We have a hierarchy for our values and anything we do MUST adhere to our values. For… read more →
Day 4 looking at your new years resolutions. When working with Personal Training clients, a common issue I come up against is outside pressure. Not towards me but towards the client from peers or family. Yep, often friends become jealous of someone close to them changing and doing something positive for themselves. I’ve even had cases where a husband or wife didn’t like the fact their spouse was changing, even when it meant they would be healthier and/or fitter. Maybe you train in a group and decide to work to a goal that requires a different approach. Members of your… read more →
Day 3 on why most resolutions will soon fail and how to get the most from them. Day one was about finding the Big ‘WHY’. Day 2 was about planning them thoroughly. Day 3, ooh, that’s today. Is about paying the price. Yesterday I talked about working backwards from your goal and working out exactly how it could be achieved. This is when a big majority of people hit the wall and decide it’s too big a price to pay. Let’s say fitness/weight loss. You’re not prepared to give up your Friday, Saturday, Sunday bottle of wine. You can’t go… read more →
Yesterday’s post was about the big ‘WHY’ and it being crucial to work out your reasons for working towards a goal. So hopefully that made you think a little deeper about what your goals may be for the year ahead. Now you need to plan how to achieve those goals. Here’s an example. In my treatment/therapy practice, I see lots of runners as that was my sport. Whilst treating them, I often ask about their training and racing as this is usually the cause of their injury. Anyway, we may be talking about their target times for a certain distance… read more →
Yep, it’s that time when the majority of people will have just made a host of resolutions for the new year ahead. Unfortunately, for the majority of people, these targets or hopes will have vanished into the ether within 3 weeks, if not already! Over the next few days, I’ll break down why that is. It’s not just the usual losing weight or getting fit. It could be a runner trying to improve a 5km or 10km time. It might be someone looking to change jobs or the self employed person looking to double their income. So today, let’s look… read more →

We’re coming to the end of the year which means we’ll soon begin a new one. This is the time when a mahoosive amount of people decide to lose some weight and/or get fit. One of THE most common things people do to achieve this is…. restrict their food intake. Don’t! This is why almost EVERY diet does not, will not work. It’s why most people who… read more →
Third in the mini series of blog posts on how to boost your metabolism and this one is nice and gentle. SLEEP! Get more of it. This is one of the most important elements I get clients to address when looking to get fit and drop some body fat. You may be going to bed early and getting up late but is your sleep Quality sleep? Sleep is the time your body regenerates and repairs, both mentally and physically. The optimum times shown to have the best effect on health is sleeping between 10pm and 6am. Your major organs use… read more →
#2 in Boosting Your Metabolism… This is one that a lot of people struggle with. Most either wrongly think that cardio exercise is THE thing that will shift the weight or they believe lifting weights will make them big and bulky. Let’s look at the cardio element first. Cardio is a steady state activity like walking or running at a level you can still talk at. While cardio IS good exercise and should always be added to your program, it is not that efficient for weight/fat loss. The thing is, you only burn calories while you are working out at… read more →
